The Nut Bowl That’s Making Me Want to Redecorate My Entire Apartment
There are objects in life that have the power to raise the standards for everything around them. For me, the Garret Double Nut Bowl is one such piece. My appreciation for this simple yet elegant object began one chilly December weekend when I wandered through the fourth floor of the Ralph Lauren store at 888 Madison Avenue. The fourth floor is dedicated to Ralph Lauren’s Home Collection, and stepping into that space made me rethink how I approach my own home—what I surround myself with and what my space could look like in the future.
As I explored the floor, I couldn’t help but wonder why my home doesn’t feel more like this—more thoughtfully designed and timeless. Why don’t I have mahogany tables and wicker chairs with gingham cushions? Why aren’t my crystal decanters filled with good brandy? Why do my paperclips sit in a plastic holder instead of a silver tray? And why, oh why, don’t I have a Christmas tree in my bedroom all year round?
But among all the beautiful items on display, it was the nut bowl that truly captured my attention. Set on a home bar, surrounded by Ralph Lauren leather-framed pictures, gilded coasters, and vintage match strikers, the nut bowl stood out with its understated elegance. The tan leather handle suggested it was made for easy transport, in case the party moved into the living room later in the evening. Inside, the two glass compartments were filled with fresh, vibrant pistachios.

What struck me most about the nut bowl was how it immediately elevated everything around it. The leather handle, which wraps around the glass compartments, gave it a sturdy yet sleek feel, almost like a picnic basket, but much more refined. It made its presence known without overwhelming the space or taking up unnecessary room. The glass compartments are divided, allowing you to serve two different kinds of nuts, but I found that one variety in abundance, like the pistachios, makes a far more dramatic impact.
